The Institute has also well-equipped insectarium which is the second in country after NII (National Institute of Immunology). The Institute has successfully developed the insectarium facilities where rearing and breeding of Anopheles mosquito are possible for biomedical research on one of the global burden of diseases, i.e. Malaria. Here the mosqitoes are fed with Plasmodium infected RBCs to grow the sporozoites that are used for vaccination to induce liver-stage specific immune responses.
