The objective of the Master’s programme in Microbiology is designed to prepare students to apply the knowledge of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cellular processes, taxonomy, interaction of microorganisms with one another as well as with physical and chemical agents, and higher order organisms.
In addition to theory, laboratory training is provided to prepare them for careers in the industry, agriculture, and applied research where biological systems are increasingly used. Basics and current molecular updates in the areas of Industrial Microbiology, Fermentation Technology, Agriculture and Environmental Microbiology are included to enhance the skills of the students and also sensitize them to the scope for research. The programme also addresses the emerging need for skilled scientific manpower with an understanding of research ethics involving microorganisms to contribute to application, advancement and imparting the knowledge in the field of microbiology and molecular biology globally.
