Institute of Science, Nirma University and Biocare Research India Pvt. Ltd., Ahmedabad jointly organized a workshop on “Wastewater from Characterization to Treatment” under the banner of Centre for Continuing Education, Nirma University during 12th to 14th March, 2018. The Resource Person for this workshop was invited from a UNESCO organization, Prof. Eric van Hullebusch, Chair Professor of Environmental Science and Technology, IHE – Delft, Netherlands. This Institute is the largest international graduate water education facility in the world. The technical sessions conducted by him for two days focused on wastewater and its characteristics, need and challenges for the treatment, microbial metabolic diversity and its role in treatment, aerobic and anaerobic modes of wastewater treatment and various test parameters to monitor the treatment. A talk was delivered by Shri Deepak Davda, CEO, Green Environment Services Co-op. Soc. Ltd., CETP, Vatva, Ahmedabad. Dr. Nasreen Munshi also conducted sessions on microbial aspects of wastewater treatment and on assessment of functional microbial diversity of wastewater microbial community. The workshop ended with a half day visit to CETP, Vatva.
The workshop was coordinated by Dr. Purvi Zaveri from Biocare Research (I) Pvt. Ltd., Ahmedabad and Dr. Nasreen Munshi from Institute of Science. The total number of participants were 32, of which 25 were from different Industries, Consulting Firms and CETPs, rest were students and faculty members from outside Nirma University. The workshop got very good response and appraisal by the participants. The event also got covered by various newspaper articles and notes. Biocare Research (I) Pvt.
