Foundation Day Celebration 2025 of Institute of Science:
On September 6, 2025, Institute of Science, Nirma University proudly celebrated its 22nd Foundation. At the onset, Prof Sarat Dalai, HOI, Institute of Science delivered the welcome address reflecting on the Institute’s commitment to academic progress. The Chief Guest – Dr Debasisa Mohanty, Director, National Institute of Immunology commemorated the session and provided a brief glimpse about the role of Artificial Intelligence and its impact on biological science. The event was graced by Prof Madhuri Bhavsar (Chair, Postgraduate programme, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Nirma University), Prof Priti Mehta (Professor in Institute of Pharmacy, Nirma University), Dr Sharmishtha Majumdar, Associate Prof, IIT Gandhinagar and Dr Dhaval Patel, Assistant Prof, Gujarat Biotechnology University. The inaugural programme commenced with a prayer and lamp lighting ceremony followed by a brief presentation titled ‘Inception to Innovation’ which showcased the Institute’s journey over the 21 years highlighting its progress, major achievement since its inception in 2004 and future aspirations. Besides, the dignitaries on the dais also formally launched the Annual Magazine “De Novo”, which showcased the academic and creative contributions of students and faculty. The function concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Dr Darshan Dhakan, Coordinator of the event.
An Expert Talk was delivered by Dr Debasisa Mohanty on the topic “Leveraging AI/ML for Advancing Biomedical Research: Protein Structure Prediction to Digital Twins” emphasizing the role of computational sciences and artificial intelligence to solve critical and unsolved problems in biological sciences. Moreover, a Poster Presentation competition was organized for MSc and PhD students of the Institute which were evaluated by external experts Dr. Sharmishtha Majumdar and Dr. Dhaval Patel from IIT Gandhinagar and GBU respectively. All the winners received awards and certificates of appreciation. The event witnessed active and enthusiastic participation by the faculty and staff members, students and alumni which strengthened the sense of unity and belonging within the Institute.
