Nirma University accredited with NAAC A+ grade

City based Nirma University is awarded A+ grade by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in the third cycle of re-accreditation. This grade is a hallmark of very high academic quality, including education, research and extension.

NAAC is an autonomous institution of the University Grants Commission (UGC) that conducts assessment and accreditation of Higher Educational Institutions (HEI) such as colleges, universities or other recognised institutions to derive an understanding of the ‘Quality Status’ of the institution. The unique feature of NAAC is it not only provides accreditation but also does the assessment of the institution.

The assessment has two components: Qualitative and Quantitative. The quantitative dimension is evaluated by a third party basis the documentary evidence submitted. While senior academicians evaluates the qualitative aspects on the basis of inspection and interactions with different stakeholders.

In the previous cycle of NAAC accreditation, the Nirma University was awarded an A grade. In the 3rd cycle, it is awarded an A+ grade. Only a few universities in India have an A+ grade. This grade will help the Nirma University to go for greater academic autonomy and enhance its academic reputation in the comity of international higher education institutions. Among private universities, the Nirma University is the only one to receive an A+ grade in the state of Gujarat. The accreditation process was done in March when the Peer team visited the campus from March 29-31, 2022. The grade is valid for the coming five years.

On this occasion, Dr Anup K Singh, Director General, Nirma University says, ‘Nirma University has continuously improved its quality over a period of one decade. It has moved from B+ to A+, which is a significant achievement. The university is committed to the highest standard of quality of academic achievement and the greatest value to the student committee. An A+ grade would help us increase our footprint in newer fields of higher education.’

Dr Tejal Mehta, IQAC Coordinator says, ‘The A+ grade has been awarded based on various parameters like research, infrastructure, learning resources, evaluation, innovation and governance by following a stringent assessment method. The NAAC accreditation is a stepping-stone for any university. The grade inculcates great confidence among all stakeholders of the university. The A+ grade has opened many possibilities for the university. It is not only prestigious to attain NAAC accreditation but also useful in the university’s progress and staying ahead in the competition of offering quality education.’
